How to

If necessary, paint the box or cover with paper. Size the image so it fits neatly into the back of the box and glue in place. Make an arrangement of flowers and feathers over the original nest in the image. Add lace trim to the top and bottom of the box.

Crackle medium

How to

Colour the heart with a red marker pen. Add a coat of crackle medium and allow to dry. Apply the image to the ATC. Add a thin layer of beeswax all over. Build up beeswax along the sides of the image and edges of the ATC itself. Allow to dry. Brush mica powder all over the image and the build up at the sides and edges. Buff with a dry cloth. Apply the heart and words.

How to

Layer up the hessian/burlap, muslin and flowered fabric. Add a strip of burlap across the centre. Cut out a square from the paper – choosing an image and composition that appeals to you. Stick this over the fabrics and ribbon. Apply the organza rose trim across the bottom and the lace scrap just above it. Thread the button and add to the corner of the card. Finally, glue on the cabochon.

This month our design team is looking toword Spring and all it's beautiful colors. Below are some samples by

Dream in Flowers Card

All stamps used were from the Gecko Galz Gifts from the Garden digital Stamp set.   In my printing program, I layered IMG10 with IMG3.  I also printed IMG15 twice and cropped the sentiment from from IMG 19. The main images were colored lightly with Copics and fussy cut.  I carefully tore around the the music part of the stamp and inked that area with Frayed Burlap Distress.  I fussy cut the two butterflies from IMG15 and attached them at the bodies only on top.  I layered a 6x6" square card with very old DP from my stash, tucking lace tape from Decollections under the DP edges before gluing it down.  The images were raised with adhesive foam at an angle and I added some ribbon snippets and a floral cameo from WeR Memory Keepers in the top corner.  I distressed the sentiment with the edge of my scissors and inked it with Frayed Burlap before popping it top left.  I balanced it out with 3 adhesive pearls in the bottom right corner.

Fashionable Hats Accordion card

Supplies:

2 different coordinating DP's (lightweight)

Flowers from Petal Lu

Computer generated sentiment

Cut 3 accordion panels from green card stock and 3

 more from each of the 2 lightweight Dp's.  Cut off side

 flaps from each of the Dp panels and then trim each

 side 1/8th".  Trim small flaps on each swing panel off,

 as well.

  Glue side flaps of card stock together and then DP

 panels to card stock (alternating prints), but leave the

 areas where the card stock flaps adhere to the flip

 panels free, so when you attach the flip panels, you can

 slip them between the patterned DP and they won't

 show.  Size 4 Fashionable Hats Ladies and sentiment to

 fit the Spellbinder's Labels One die (approximately 2

 1/2" square for the 2 3/4" die), print and cut out with die.

  Also print 3 "and another" sentiments and cut those to

 fit on the top or bottom of the back panels.  Attach

 ladies and sentiments and fold and attach inner flip

 panels together under the DP and glue DP over the

 flaps.  Attach flowers to front as shown.

Butterfly Sticker-Nature's Illusions

First I sized the Beautiful Mind image from the Beautiful Words collage sheet to fit the resin light bulb I wanted to use.  That came to about 5 x 6 1/2 ".  From the same sheet I cropped and resized the Happiness quote to 1 3/8 x 5 1/4 and also cropped out the butterfly from that quote twice and resized them to fit on either side.  I resized the Do Your Best image to 1 x 2" and printed them all and cut them out.  I matted the main image in lime, cut the Dp to 6 3/4 x 9" and matted that in black so the finished size of the top part of the hanging is 7 1/4 x 9 1/2".    I matted the Do Your Best quote in turquoise and glued it diagonally to the top left of the Beautiful Mind image and added the rest of the embellishments.  The Happiness quote was matted in hot pink and again in black.  The finished size of the bottom is 2 1/8 x 6".  I poked hole in the top and bottom portion of the hanging and attached them with jump rings.  Finally, I fussy cut the butterflies and glued them along the bodies only, on either side of the quote, and bent the wings up.

we asked Donna the following question

 " If you had magic powers what 3 things would you do to advance the Crafting/scrapbooking Movement?" 

 First of all, if I had magic powers, I'd clean and organize my craft room which would at least advance my crafting movement. LOL  Then I could concentrate on the rest.  Next I would change attitudes so that crafting/scrapbooking is recognized as ART and not just a frivolous hobby by some.  Finally, I'd give everyone the confidence, time and means to pursue their dreams, follow their imagination, and love what they've created.

Using a brownish card stock for the background for the paper and quote I layered them with the oval die cut on a bit of a slant. I added liquid pearls on the three corners and added a flower I made a while ago with some trims.

We asked Carol the following question

If you had magic powers what 3 things would you do to advance the crafting/scrapbooking movement?

I could not think of 3 things but I think an important thing would be to not only have more mom & pop craft stores around but also make it so they can thrive just as well as the big box stores that are overrunning them now!

If you had magic powers what 3 things would you do to advance the Crafting/scrapbooking Movement?" 

1.) Make it easier for scrapbook store to function ( cost of store front mainly), don't get me wrong, I am thrilled that we have the online and facebook to get together and would never stop that but I really miss the real live getting together and then when I move to Colorado, where do I meet more crazy scrapping ladies?

2.) It never fails that when I finally get a tool that I want - they come out with a new improved product....I think company should have trade ins so we don't just go out and buy it again ! Come on ....I am not a millionaire !

which brings me to # 3

3.) Everyone would get a money tree in their backyard for crafty stuff...I mean really Ranger/Tim Holtz is gonna drive me to the poor house !!  lol

VISIONS OF LOVE........DESIGNS by NANCY SMITH

We are pleased to have Nancy on our design team this year and right  out of the gate she is showing everyone why she made the team with her amazing Valentines designs!

YOUR IN MY HEART CARD

Begin by creating the card topper, you will add this to your card base later.

Cut black cardstock to 5 1/4" x 6 3/4".

Print out your patterned background paper from the Love Potion #9 papers.

Cut the patterned paper into strips 1 1/8 inches wide.

Cut the strips into 2" lengths.  You will need 12 pieces to cover your card topper.

Adhere the patterned peices to your black card topper, spacing them as evenly as possible.  I used a scotch heavy duty glue stick.  This completes the background of your card topper.

Print out the collage sheet Retro Love Story and cut out the image leaving a narrow white border around the image.  Mat the image onto black cardstock, and adhere it to your background using foam dimensional tape.

Print out digital "Love Me" stamp from the "All You Need is Love" digital stamp set, sizing it accordingly. Mine is 2" tall.  Add dimensional foam tape at the top of the heart only and adhere it to your card topper overlapping the top left of the image.

From the same set of digital stamps, print out the image "You're in My Heart" and cut the words out from the heart, arrange and adhere.  I did not use dimensional tape on the words so it would look more like the words were written across the card.  I printed the digital stamp at 3 1/2" x 5".

Create a bow to adhere to the bottom of your card topper.  I used the Zutter bow making tool and tied a double bow using a retro styled polka dot ribbon.  I adhered my ribbon and bow with ATG tape, just swiping my ATG gun across the card and across the back of the topper by about 1" on either side.

Create your card base by folding in half a sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 paper in your choice of black, white, or red cardstock. I used my scoreboard and bone folder for this task.  After folding, cut the bottom off so you are left with a card base that measures 5 1/2" x 7". 

Adhere your card topper to your card base.  I used my ATG gun, but you can use your favorite glue of choice. 

Add more embellishments as desired.  I added some glittered hearts from my stash.

DESIGN TEAM SPOTLIGHT: Sharon Rogers

This month we are pleased to introduce you to another amazing Design Team Member. Sharon Rogers is an extreamly talented paper artist that Gecko Galz has the honor of having her as one of our design team members.
Here is a bit about this talented lady!

How long have you been paper crafting?

At least half my life – so that is about 20 years – I started basic rubber stamping and went on from there!

  

What is your favorite kind of projects to do?

I predominately love making cards but I have also started to get into journal pages and I do love making little art dolls.

In the industry who do you most admire and why?

There are lots of very talented crafters who I am on DT’s with & who I follow so this is a very hard question which I can’t answer LOL!

  

What brands (besides Gecko Galz) do you enjoy working with?

Vera Lane Studio Digital Stamps & Bombshell Stamps are just a few of my favourite stamp stores, various Etsy Store Digital Papers & I love Dylusions Inks & also Ranger Distress Stains

 

What is the one thing in your crafting tote that you cannot live without?

My Copic Markers!

All the fabulous Gecko Galz products we get to ‘showcase’ each month – always such an amazing variety!

What is your favorite scrapbook shop and where is it located?

My favourite shop is online as I don’t have a lot of time to get to actual shops – Craft Online – an Aussie online store.

How would you describe your crafting style?

Varied – LOL – I love all sorts of styles.

If you could have a job in the crafting world what would it be and why?

Maybe something to do with online publishing or a magazine.
